This week I tried to be mindful of the amount of technology I used. I tried to disconnect from the virtual world and reconnect with the physical world that surrounds me. But, in all honesty, this was very, very difficult as the majority of our lives now revolve around technology and being engaged in our virtual lives rather than our real lives. Because of this, I began to think about the implications of social media and the virtual world on our lives and I came across the following two videos which I found profoundly true!
What happens in our lives when we consume ourselves in social media rather than the physical world?
After watching these videos, trying to get off my phone and laptop became a lot more motivating. I worked on this by doing small things such as leaving my phone in the car while I went into the mall or grocery store, or leaving it in my backpack while I walked down the hall. At first it felt weird, but after a while it became a relief to not have my phone glued to my side as I became more aware of the people around me and I found myself talking to more people in person. I'm not saying that limiting your use of social media and technology is easy and i'm not saying we should get rid of it all together, but if you are able to do little things like I was then I can guarantee that you will notice yourself feeling more connected to your surroundings and the people around you rather than the virtual world you have created.
Erica, your process of creating healthy habits was very engaging and creative. I loved the links and suggestions that you give in your posts for other people - I found the recipes and tips very helpful. Your blog is easy to navigate and you include a lot of pictures and links. The only feedback I have would be to include personal pictures from your genius hour! I liked seeing them in your movie trailer, and it would have been awesome to see in your individual posts! Overall, amazing job, I can see myself adapting these healthy habits!
ReplyDeleteHi Erica!
ReplyDeleteI love your Genius Hour Blog!
Your topic is so amazing and so relatable, I really enjoyed reading through it! For your reflection posts, you documented all of your research and each post included images (I loved your Bitmojis) and excellent tips, links and more. This includes your Pintrest page with energizing ideas (super useful), links to interesting videos in your taking a break, links to recipes during your health eating reflection and more! You included it all in such an engaging way- it is obvious that you put a lot of work and effort into this project weekly and it paid off! You have all four of your artifacts (Movie trailer, Ted Talk, Intro and Proposal) included in your blog with a description of each which is awesome! The layout of your blog is fun and engaging which made it super easy to follow and read, while being very professional! Very well done!
Erica,
ReplyDeleteYou did an awesome job on your Genius Hour project. Your topic was very ambitious and covered a lot of different aspects pertaining to healthy living and mindfulness. The bitmojis that you created for each of your blog posts made the pictures throughout your blog very cohesive and your blog is also very well organized. You included all of the necessary blog posts including your introductory post, 3 reflection posts and your final conclusion and all of your posts included either images, videos or hyperlinks. The only feedback I have for you is that you could include all of these forms of media within each individual blog post to add more variety. Other than that I can't think of any other ways to improve your work. You clearly spent a lot of time on this project and are very passionate about this topic. Well done!
